95 YEAR HISTORY

The Barry Company is proud to have a long and successful history of industrial, office, commercial, land and investment real estate brokerage in the Milwaukee area, across Southeastern Wisconsin and beyond. The James T. Barry Co. was founded in 1921 by James T. Barry, and is now in its third generation of leadership with James T. Barry III leading the brokerage team.

Over the years, The Barry Company has shaped the commercial real estate industry, conceiving the ideas for what are now some of the State’s largest business parks. Starting with the New Berlin Industrial Park, The Barry Company developed and sold the entire Park by 1970, and was responsible for the development of the Menomonee Falls Business Park, the Bishop’s Woods Office Park and numerous other developments including the initiation of the City of Milwaukee Land Bank.

We have consistently been involved in the Milwaukee area’s largest and most complex transactions, including the redevelopment of the Allis Chalmers facility into a retail/mixed-use property in the 1990s, the sale of the 857,000 square foot Briggs & Stratton industrial facility in Menomonee Falls, WI to Harley Davidson in 1997, the redevelopment sale of the 914,000 square foot West Bend Company property in West Bend, WI in 2004 and the 1.1 million square foot downtown Milwaukee post office sale in 2015, which may pave the way for a landmark redevelopment project.

The Barry Company is able to consistently excel in complex transactions by always providing the highest level of service custom-tailored to every client.

THE BARRY BRAND

The Barry name in itself evokes a sense of history when it comes to commercial real estate in the Milwaukee area and throughout Wisconsin. Since 1921, the company has retained the Barry name in its branding – from logos to signs, marketing materials and more, our clients know they are receiving the highest level of service from one of the longest-standing commercial real estate firms in Milwaukee.

The company spent many years as a locally-owned and operated affiliate of larger corporate real estate firms such as Colliers International and Cassidy Turley. In recent years, the firm had been through multiple re-branding processes with national affiliates within a short timeframe and pressure was building to consider relinquishing our local, independent ownership structure. The Barry Company was convinced that the commercial real estate business Wisconsin requires a strong, established, knowledgeable local presence – thus we chose to reaffirm our core BARRY brand as well as our commitment to remain a Wisconsin-owned and operated firm.

Today, the Barry brand is stronger than ever. With roots in Southeastern Wisconsin, we attract clients throughout the United States by offering a personalized, boutique approach to brokerage.

The Barry Company brand is complemented by the firm’s affiliations with the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute (CCIM), the Counselors of Real Estate (CRE), and the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR). In fact, The Barry Company is one of only two Wisconsin real estate firms to have active affiliations with all three groups and has a higher percentage of brokers with CCIM, CRE, and SIOR designations that any other major Wisconsin commercial brokerage company. CCIM, CRE and SIOR give The Barry Company access to a national network of prospects, referrals and experience throughout the nation. Time and again, The Barry Company has used these connections for the benefit of its clients.
