The Barry Company Wins Deal of the Year Awards

The Barry Company Wins Deal of the Year Awards

The Barry Company, a leading southeast Wisconsin commercial real estate company headquartered in downtown Milwaukee won the “Office Deal of the Year” award and was a finalist for the “Retail Deal of the Year” award, which were presented at the 2020 Commercial Association of Realtors of Wisconsin (CARW) Deal of the Year Awards and Annual Meeting October 22 on a virtual meeting. The event honored 2020’s most notable professionals and transactions in Southeast Wisconsin commercial real estate.

David L. Barry, CCIM, SIOR and Jim Barry III, CCIM won the Office Deal of the Year award for their role in the tenant representation of the Bradley Foundation, as well as the sale of the historic Lion House, a three-building complex located at 1241-1249 N Franklin Place on Milwaukee’s East Side. The Bradley Foundation considered many options for its relocation, but settled on the new 1400 N. Water St. building, which was just being completed by the Hammes Company. Represented by The Barry Company, the Foundation negotiated a long-term lease for the entire third floor of the 1400 N. Water St. building. The Foundation was the first third-party tenant to sign a lease in the building and helped the building kick off a successful leasing program.

Within a few weeks of being on the market and with much interest from buyers, the historic Lion House buildings were placed under contract to a private owner/developer who wanted to preserve and enhance the historic character of the building, relocate offices there and develop additional office space for lease. After completing architectural plans and other due diligence, the sale transaction closed. The Barry Company is currently marketing the Lion House properties for lease.
David Barry, CCIM, SIOR, and Kurt Van Dyke, CCIM, SIOR were a finalist for the Retail Deal of the Year award for selling the 65,000 sq. ft. former Pick N Save in Oconomowoc, Wis. to St. Vincent DePaul of Waukesha County. The site was developed into a thrift store.

Since the inception of the Deal of the Year award by CARW, The Barry Company has won 19 times, and has been honored as a runner-up or finalist on multiple occasions.
